AI Character Creation And Story Building Are Coming To Xbox

AI is set to come into your Xbox as Microsoft has announced a new partnership with Inworld AI to create a tool to build characters, stories, and more via AI.

First reported by The Verge, the new tool will allow AI to be used for creating scripts for characters as well as a character engine that can be used to “dynamically generate stories, quests, and dialogue.”

“At Xbox, we believe that with better tools, creators can make even more extraordinary games,” Haiyan Zhang, general manager of gaming AI at Xbox, said via The Verge. “This partnership will bring together: Inworld’s expertise in working with generative AI models for character development, Microsoft’s cutting-edge cloud-based AI solutions including Azure OpenAI Service, Microsoft Research’s technical insights into the future of play, and Team Xbox’s strengths in revolutionizing accessible and responsible creator tools for all developers.

The new tool will be offered as an optional add-on for developers. That will give studios the choice of whether to include generative AI in their games or to stick with the usual ways of creating.

Inworld AI CEO Ilya Gelfenbeyn says AI has “long been an integral part of game development”. Utilizing its abilities more will only help create better games, he added.

“The emergence of large language models and generative AI has unlocked new opportunities for storytelling and character engagement within games,” he said.
