A new rumor has circulated online that the next-gen Xbox called ‘Xbox Prime’ is targeting a 2026 release date.
The news comes from X (formerly Twitter) account TheGhostOfHope, who has a history of posting primarily Call of Duty leaks. According to Hope, he says that he’s heard the next Xbox console “is still coming in 2026 and will be called Xbox Prime.”
UPDATE: Reporter Jez Corden says that “There’s no such thing as xbox prime launching in 26”.
He continues to say that it’s unclear if the console’s name is the codename or not and that Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty title, presumably Modern Warfare 4, will be a Day 1 release.
Hope later continues that the Xbox next-gen release is “pretty much an open secret within the industry.”
If the rumor proves to be true, it could suggest that we could be hearing about the next generation Xbox sooner rather than later, possibly by the end of the year.
As for whether the rumor is true, Hope has had a history of posting Call of Duty leaks and is known to have sources within Activision and Call of Duty development teams, and with the company now owned by Microsoft, it’s entirely plausible that he’s been given the information from a developer working on a next-gen version of Call of Duty 2026.
As Hope points out, hopefully, the rumor leads to others with knowledge of the console speaking out to other leakers or journalists to confirm or deny the rumors.
As of September 2024, the Xbox Series S|X has sold 29.64 million units, half of that of the PlayStation 5’s 60 million.

Sure it’s not an upgrade to a Xbox Series? They said this about Xbox One X years ago. I don’t think they can turn it around. Weren’t they rumored for 2028 too with Sony?
They need actual games first. Xbox has no exclusives where is that? Backwards compatibility is still missing tons of titles exclusives and first party. They release games multi platform why have a console? Microsoft needs to fire the current people especially Aaron Greenberg and Phil.
They need to acquire Take Two Interactive to boost pre-order sales same way they bought Bethesda.
With what games? COD will be multiplatform actually all their games are or will be why make another console to flop? Xbox Series X and S have been awful and now this???
Then this generation was a failure the 9th gen is officially the worst. I’d only buy another Xbox if I could merge my digital Xbox library with the Steam library moving forward also allow third party disc drive support to play old games and 4K Blu Rays if it’s digital only. PS5 and XSX both take L’s this gen. Nintendo Switch 2 will kill them console wise and PC is taking over.
So will Sony boost up PS6’s reveal and release it in 2027? disappointment everywhere. This gen is over and there was nothing good. Funny GTA 5 was the end of the 360/PS3 gen now GTA6 might be the end of this gen.
Why? Imagine the price $600 and $70 games. So will they release a new console in 2028? I wish Xbox went back the Y2K route and used the classic logo.
This is the official death blow to Xbox. RIP I hope all involved especially the top brass are fired and blacklisted looking at Phil and especially Aaron. Satya time for them to be fired!
