Saudi Investment Firm Increases Stake in Capcom

Electronic Gaming Development Company (EGDC), a Saudi-based investment firm, has increased its ownership stake in Capcom by more than 1%. This news dropped earlier today, courtesy of GameBiz, which detailed EGDC’s stake in Capcom rising to 6.04% after the acquisition.

According to Capcom’s investor relations report (dated December 31, 2025), the boosted investment would put EGDC in fourth place on the company’s major shareholders list.

Saudi Firm Boosts Shares in Capcom

According to the aggregate data platform, MarketScreener, Electronic Gaming Development Company now has an investment in Capcom worth around $617 million, but it’s not the only Saudi firm with a finger in that pie.

That site also declares Ayar First Investment, a Riyadh-based investment firm, as a major stakeholder in Capcom. Ayar also has major investments in the likes of Nintendo, Nexon, and Bandai Namco, as of the start of this year.

Only Crossroad, a major shareholder and asset management company headquartered in Japan, and Capcom Company itself have larger investments in the firm.

In a recent report from GameBiz.jp, it was explained that EGDC is a company established under the MiSK Foundation, an organization set up by Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s crown.

The Saudi Arabian investments in Capcom’s network have only recently gained traction. In January 2026, Ayar First Investment secured a 6.6% stake in the Japanese firm, replacing JP Morgan Chase. Ayar’s investment trend targeted many successful Japanese developers and publishers, which was seen by many as an ongoing move to diversify Saudi Arabia’s economic footprint.

In recent years, we’ve seen the Saudi PIF (Public Investment Fund) secure Scopely (via Savvy Games), and weigh heavily into an attempt to purchase Electronic Arts for as much as $55 billion.

Are you surprised that Saudi Arabia is investing so heavily in Japanese game development? Let us know your thoughts on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
