Sony has announced that it will acquire machine learning and computer vision company Cinemersive Labs.
We have heard about a lot of acquisitions recently, with Shift Up announcing yesterday that it is acquiring the studio of Resident Evil creator, Unbound. We have been informed of another deal, and this time, Sony is bringing in a new partner to strengthen SIE’s Visual Computing Group.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Brings in Cinemersive Labs to Its Visual Computing Group
A new blog post on the Sony Interactive Entertainment website announces the acquisition of Cinemersive Labs. Sony reveals that this deal is part of their efforts to “new ways to push the boundaries of visual computing and deliver richer, more immersive gameplay experiences.” Cinermersive Labs is a UK-based company that specializes in machine learning and computer vision.
Sony will make Cinemersive Labs join their Visual Computing Group after the acquisition, with the company then contributing to their” broader efforts in advancing state of the art visual computing within games.” The work would include applying machine learning to enhance gameplay visuals, improve rendering techniques, and unlock new levels of visual fidelity for players.
In other news, Saudi-based Savvy Games is set to acquire Moonton from ByteDance for $6 billion. Additionally, Saudi Arabia’s Electronic Gaming Development Company has acquired a 5% stake in Capcom.
