Fortnite’s Huge Toy Story Collab Leaks Ahead of Release

Fortnite and Disney have a long-term partnership, including the latter being a major shareholder in Epic Games, and a huge Toy Story collab that has been rumoured for a while has leaked ahead of release.

Toy Story is one of Disney’s most successful franchises, spanning three decades of movies, and the fifth entry in the series of films is released in June, making it the perfect time for an arrival in Fortnite.

While Epic Games has not revealed the full details of the collab or the items that will be available, the April 1 patch uncovered encrypted files that detail what to expect.

As revealed by the ever-reliable ShiinaBR, Buzz Lightyear and Emperor Zurg are the first two skins to be uncovered for the Toy Story collab, and the pair will first be available through the Buzz vs Zurg Showdown Cup.

Showdown Cups regularly provide early access to skins before they release in the Item Shop, meaning the pair will be available for purchase separately in the future. However, it does mean the chances of a full Toy Story takeover are low.

Bringing Toy Story in as a major collab would certainly have an appeal, bringing super-sized objects into the environment to give off the impression that players are toys, but there is, of course, the issue of the family-friendly theme of Toy Story in amongst a mode with guns, explosives, and more.

This can’t be avoided entirely, and bringing out skins for the likes of Buzz Lightyear will lead to situations where the iconic character is running around with a weapon, but that has become the norm in Fortnite, and can’t be avoided.

Alongside the two revealed skins, it’s also been uncovered that the three-eyed Aliens from the movie are coming as Sidekicks, joining the likes of Spongebob Squarepants and Baby Groot.

Sidekicks were introduced into Fortnite last year and provide a different way for collabs to feature in the game, especially when the size ratio doesn’t quite add up, and the Aliens are the perfect fit for this approach.
