Disney Senior Executives Have Considered Buying Epic Games, It’s Claimed

A new claim states that some Disney senior executives have considered acquiring Epic Games.

Epic Games and Disney have a long-standing partnership, with the latter already owning a $1.5 billion stake in the former, and has promised a “expansive” universe in Fortnite. However, new claims suggest that Disney might be looking to increase their investment tremendously in the Fortnite maker.

Disney Could Seemingly Acquire Epic Games

During the latest episode of The Town with Matt Belloni on YouTube, Alex Heath, the author of the Sources newsletter and co-host of the Access podcast, shared insights into Disney and Epic. When the host addressed rumours about Disney considering buying Epic Games, Heath stated that he “knows for a fact that there are senior executives in Disney who want them to buy Epic and are just waiting for that moment.” However, others think this could be a “bad idea”.

Heath added that if Epic ever decides to sell, “Disney would be the most natural home for it”. This includes reasons like park integration, IP integration, and becoming Disney’s gaming platform. Unreal Engine could also be a major factor in the acquisition, as it is a key part of production for Disney shows like The Mandalorian.

In other news, Epic Games is holding mass layoffs that will see more than 1,000 people lose their jobs. Additionally, Netflix considered acquiring Electronic Arts, Disney, and Fox, but none of those deals came to fruition.
