Tomorrow, OpTic Texas will take on FaZe Vegas in the Winner’s Finals at the Call of Duty League Major 2 tournament in Birmingham, England. The series promises to be one of the most highly anticipated matches of the season thus far, presenting fans with Call of Duty’s version of El Clásico.
Both FaZe and OpTic have enjoyed a decent upper bracket run at Major 2 thus far. OpTic has managed to waltz through both Toronto KOI and G2 Minnesota without dropping a map, while FaZe performed a masterful reverse sweep against LA Thieves, before promptly eliminating Paris Gentle Mates to the lower bracket.
Tomorrow’s Winner’s Finals clash will be the gem of the tournament thus far, but it might not be the only time they meet.
FaZe vs. OpTic Grand Final? Perhaps!
Four teams remain in the Call of Duty League Major 2 tournament: Toronto KOI, LA Thieves, OpTic Texas, and FaZe Vegas. It’s a hell of a line-up, with FaZe and OpTic standing firm as favorites, while LAT is the dominator of the lower bracket. Toronto files into the slate as the underdog this time around, but the team has managed to eliminate Riyadh Falcons and Paris Gentle Mates.
LAT will take on Toronto KOI to kick off Championship Sunday in the United Kingdom. It’s a brilliant way to start the last day of a Major tournament that has erupted in Birmingham. The crowd has been phenomenal, and the players are singing the nation’s praises in every post and interview.
OpTic Texas and FaZe Vegas will clash in the Winner’s Final, but there’s a huge opportunity for that series to repeat itself in the Grand Final. Whichever team drops into the lower bracket will have to contend with either LA Thieves or Toronto KOI, and both of them are more than capable enough to dispatch that challenge.
That could result in an OpTic Texas vs. FaZe Vegas grand final, which would blow the roof off the NEC in Birmingham. It has been more than two years since these organizations met in a Grand Final at a Major, and more than just the $150,000 first-place prize would be at stake.
OpTic Texas is the standout pick to win, of course. The team’s recent record is nothing short of mind-blowing, with the squad going almost entirely unbeaten through Major 2’s qualifying stage. Many are predicting a three-peat season for OpTic Texas, and it could all begin tomorrow.
