Riyadh Falcons Give OpTic Texas First Match Loss Since February 1

OpTic Texas’s monumental win streak was halted this weekend as the Riyadh Falcons showed up to the Major II qualifiers in hot form. In a series that wasn’t all that close, the Falcons overcame OpTic with a 3-1 scoreline, defeating the team and putting an end to a record-breaking win streak attempt that sat at 9-0 before the loss.

Many predicted that OpTic Texas would fly through the qualifying stage for the DreamHack Birmingham Major with a perfect record, and that was almost the case. In last night’s match against Toronto KOI, OpTic regained and secured another 3-0 win, but that Riyadh Falcons loss is sure to sting as we head to the United Kingdom.

OpTic Texas Secures Top Seed for UK Major

OpTic Texas has managed to put up one hell of a fight since dropping out of the Dallas Major on home turf on February 1. The team fell at the last post against Paris Gentle Mates, failing to snatch the trophy at the first Major of the season, but the upcoming Major II tournament represents one hell of a chance at redemption.

The United Kingdom Major, which will take place at DreamHack, is the first time in almost six years that the Call of Duty League has taken place in the region. It has been absent from the UK for the longest time, and fans are hungry for this event. The coincidence with DreamHack is a huge bonus, as fans will be able to explore the wider event while also enjoying the CDL.

But back to OpTic Texas.

Last year, the team went on a landmark run, securing the Call of Duty League Championship a year after winning it on home turf. The victory came in Canada, just outside Toronto, and it was followed up swiftly with a win at the Esports World Cup. It was, except for a massive blip at the start of the year, one of the best seasons for a team in Call of Duty esports history.

There’s some solid competition shaping up for OpTic Texas at the UK Major, though. To open the event, OpTic Texas will clash with either KOI or Vancouver Surge, and a win there will mean facing either G2 Minnesota or Riyadh Falcons. Both teams have the potential to throw OpTic Texas into the loser’s run in Birmingham.
