Pearl Abyss has stated that they are discussing ideas regarding official mod support for Crimson Desert internally.
The highly anticipated open-world action adventure from Pearl Abyss has finally arrived, and things are looking up for the title after the first patch. The developers are now discussing the way ahead, addressing topics such as DLCs, multiplayer, official mod support, and other aspects. Let’s get into mod support first.
Crimson Desert Devs Are Discussing How to Implement Mod Support
According to a report by South Korean publication INVEN, during a recent shareholder meeting, Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young was asked whether there were plans to provide a mod kit or to create a modding community, similar to Skyrim’s, to make Crimson Desert a long-term IP. Jin-young responded that the team has been discussing ideas internally regarding official mod support for Crimson Desert; however, there are some challenges.
The CEO stated that “providing mod tools would require disclosing a significant portion of the engine, so there are no concrete plans yet” (Google Translation). At the moment, the team is discussing possibilities while monitoring user gameplay.
With a world like Crimson Desert’s, official mod support will be instrumental in keeping the game relevant for years to come. A case in point is Bethesda’s Skyrim, which released back in 2011 but is still played a lot thanks to countless mods, some of which add story content as well.
In other news, Pearl Abyss has moved the core Crimson Desert development team to their next title, DokeV. Additionally, Crimson Desert has reached another sales milestone, this time selling through 3 million copies. What are your thoughts on Crimson Desert devs addressing official mod support?
