Ranked play in Marathon begins very soon. In fact, it begins this Saturday, March 21, 2026. Bungie announced the news on social media.
According to the announcement, the mode is still in development for the first season. Therefore, the developers are seeking the most substantial feedback from players to help continue shaping the mode.
Marathon Ranked Play Structure
In this mode, players earn points by hitting score targets set by a special item called the Holotag. As you gain Ranked Points, you progress through six ranks. Ranks range from Bronze to Pinnacle, with each rank divided into three tiers. At the end of each season, you receive rewards based on your highest rank, encouraging players to keep playing without losing progress. Each season also offers exclusive rewards available only through Ranked play.
Rewards for the first season include gun styles and titles. Players need to reach Runner Level 25 to join Ranked matches, which are available on weekends. Each weekend features a different zone: Perimeter, Dire Marsh, or Outpost. This weekend starts with Perimeter. Crew sizes will be matched, allowing for team games or solo challenges against opposing players.
