How To Open Locked Doors In Crimson Desert—Keys, Explained

Sometimes, it doesn’t pay to be good, and it might be more beneficial to break some rules. That’s certainly the case in Crimson Desert, as there’s plenty to find hidden behind some obtrusive locked doors.

Of course, the answer to any locked door is a key, but it’s not immediately obvious where you can find them in Crimson Desert, especially when you’re just roaming around the vast open world.

Luckily for you, Insider Gaming has it all figured out, so if you want to go snooping where you shouldn’t, put on your mask and follow the guide.

Keys work differently in Crimson Desert than in other games. Most locked doors aren’t tied to a specific key, so you’ll find various items simply called Key.

Since they’re not unique, finding them can be a bit tricky, as they won’t often be marked on your map. Instead, your best bet is to steal the small wooden boxes you find in cabinets and drawers, as a Key can often be found inside.

Make sure you have your Mask equipped if you’re veering towards any criminal acts, as you won’t be able to steal the boxes without one. Of course, for every key is a Well-Aged Cheese, so it’s a gamble, but if you’re lucky, they can also be found on top of tables and chests. Just keep an eye out when you’re out thieving, as you’ll usually find one in most houses.

Do You Need Keys In Crimson Desert?

You wouldn’t expect a burglar to have a key to every house, so if you’re running low on Keys and want to do some breaking and entering, you can easily do so by climbing in through windows.

And it’s well worth breaking into places, as you’ll often find some handy valuables, especially some Crafting Books. Learning these will unlock new recipes for you to craft with, and a lot of them are tucked away in people’s houses or workshops.

But when it comes to the overall experience of Crimson Desert, no, you won’t need Keys to progress through the game. But if you’re a loot goblin and want to see what the denizens of Pywel are hiding, they’re a handy tool that lets you enter most places with ease.
