Gearbox has announced that Borderlands 4’s Story Pack 1, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, launched on March 26, 2026.
Earlier this year, Gearbox provided a roadmap of free and paid updates for Borderlands 4; however, all updates were categorized through Q1, Q2, and Q3 release windows, and there was no actual release date. Now we know when the first major content update is arriving: later this month.
Borderlands 4’s Story Pack 1, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, Releases March 2026

A new Steam post provides details on Borderlands 4 Story Pack 1, including its release date. First and foremost, players will receive a new Vault Hunter called C4SH, who will be partnering up with Ellie for “a self-contained story campaign across the Whispering Glacier.” C4SH is playable across the base game and DLC zones; a full gameplay reveal will arrive on March 16. Additionally, The Whispering Glacier is a new map zone with fresh missions, side missions, activities, and collectibles.
Moreover, players will see the addition of two major boss fights, 15 minibosses, and a new enemy. You will obviously need more firepower to take them on, which is why the Story Pack is introducing 3 Pearlescent weapons and 11 new pieces of Legendary loot, including weapons, gear, and Class Mods. Also, enthusiasts can look forward to 28 new cosmetic items to style their hunters.
Borderlands 4 Story Pack 1 Will Arrive with Shared Progression
The Story Pack 1 update will include a highly anticipated feature: shared progression. This will allow characters on the same account to receive access to map progression, SDU tokens, Hover Drives, cosmetic rewards, and activity progression. However, cross-platform saves will arrive later, not with this update.
