How To Steal Items In Crimson Desert—Mask Location, Explained

Everyone can agree that when it comes to video games, it can be a lot of fun to do a bit of bad, and it’s no different when it comes to Crimson Desert. Sure, you might get arrested, but there’s plenty of loot out there to find, and it could be yours for the taking.

However, you’ll quickly find that the game doesn’t allow you to steal items right away. The prompt will be there, but you just won’t be able to press it. Why? Well, Pearl Abyss have made it abundantly clear that they don’t intend to hold your hand in Crimson Desert, and the same can be said for those wanting to start their thieving careers.

Luckily for you, Insider Gaming has infiltrated the thieves’ guild and figured out how to steal items, and it’s high time you found out too.

In order to be able to steal items in Crimson Desert, you’ll need to equip a Mask.

You can’t just go about stealing items whenever you want, especially when you consider how important morality is to the overall narrative of Crimson Desert. However, sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures, and when they come around, simply equip your mask.

In fact, some useful items are exclusively found in locations you’ll need to steal them from, the main ones being Crafting Recipes. That being said, with every crime committed, your Faction Ranking will slightly decrease, and you can even get a bounty on your head!

If you read all of that and still want to start thieving, then here’s how you can get your hands on a Mask in Crimson Desert.

The quickest way to get a Mask in Crimson Desert is to complete the Jeffrey Bounty in Hernand, the starting town.

You’ll find nine bounties in Hernand near the start of the game, and one of them will be for the pickpocket, Jeffrey. As you roam the town looking for him, though, odds are that he’ll find you first. Before long, you’ll feel a bump in the back, and your pockets will be considerably lighter.

With the suspect in sight, you’re free to chase him down and tackle him, before tying him up and delivering him to the guards. Upon completion, you’ll not only receive your payment, but also your first Mask.

Once you equip it from your Inventory, you can toggle it on or off in the quick select menu. It’s handy to pop it on when a criminal opportunity arises, like a lockbox begging to be stolen. However, remember that whilst you’re wearing the Mask, you’ll also draw the attention of bystanders, so try not to be caught wearing it all the time lest they become suspicious!
