The vast array of Pokémon Habitats in Pokopia requires a wealth of different objects and environments, but the Smooth Tall Grass Habitat is one of the most difficult to make due to the requirement of a Smooth Rock.
While many Pokémon in Pokopia require basics to trigger spawns, like patches of grass near water or flowers underneath a tree, Onix is more picky, requiring a Smooth Rock for its ideal home.
If you’re struggling to find a Smooth Rock in Pokopia and want a detailed breakdown on how to make the Smooth Tall Grass Habitat, Insider Gaming has you covered.
How to Get Smooth Rock in Pokémon Pokopia

The Smooth Rock in Pokémon Pokopia is not an item that can be crafted, in our experience. Instead, it must be found in the environment.
A Smooth Rock is a vital part of Onix’s ideal home in Pokopia and is required to make the Smooth Tall Grass Habitat. However, unlike many other Habitats, it’s not a simple case of using the moves you have unlocked to make a new home.
So far, we have only located one Smooth Rock in Pokopia in our full exploration of various zones, but you don’t have to venture far from where you first encounter Onix to find it.
Just outside of where Onix was trapped, look for a glowing Poké Ball and pick it up to receive the Smooth Rock. It’s located almost directly opposite the cave where Onix was.
If you have ventured to this area and can’t see the Poké Ball, check any Storage Boxes you have, as it may be that you have already put it away for safekeeping.
How to Make a Smooth Tall Grass Habitat in Pokémon Pokopia
The Smooth Tall Grass Habitat in Pokopia is created by placing the Smooth Rock alongside four pieces of Tall Grass. However, there are some specific requirements.
Onix requires the Tall Grass in the habitat to be dried, not watered. Due to the changing weather in the area, where rain can quickly moisten the land, it’s best to put the Smooth Tall Grass Habitat inside a cave so it stays dry throughout.
If you can’t find a nice patch of grass inside the cave to use Leafage on, you can make your own easily by using Rock Smash to destroy Barren Soil, then pick it up and place it inside a cave, or anywhere where it is hidden from rain.

Make sure the Tall Grass isn’t watered, instead showing a dry, brown look, and place the Smooth Rock next to the grass to build the Smooth Tall Grass Habitat.
Don’t worry about making additional versions of this Habitat, as Onix is the only Pokémon that uses it, and creating another one won’t trigger a different spawn.
