Crimson Desert is preparing to drop worldwide on March 19, and recently, it was revealed that the review embargo lifts on March 18, prompting many to show scepticism about the game’s true quality. Additionally, a slew of social media users have been accusing Pearl Abyss, the game’s developer, of being deceptive in marketing materials, particularly by ‘hiding’ console footage.
Pearl Abyss’s PR and Marketing Director, Will Powers, recently took to social media to fight back against the doubters, requesting that they just let the team cook.
Crimson Desert Could Prove Them All Wrong
Crimson Desert is one of those games that looks a little too good to be true. It has been in development for years, and every time it surfaces with a new trailer or still, it looks bigger, bolder, and more ambitious than anything we’ve seen in a very long time.
That’s why many people are doubting the game’s validity, and it doesn’t entirely help that reviews and impressions are being kept under lock and key until the day before the game comes out. That’s not entirely strange or unheard of, but it’s just not helpful.
In a recent comment on social media, one user declared that Pearl Abyss is ‘hiding’ console footage, relying solely on cleaner PC footage in trailers and gameplay demos to give the perception that the game is perhaps better than they’re letting on.
Will Powers, Pearl’s PR and Marketing Director, fired back:
We’re not hiding anything, and I’m sick of having to repeat myself.
I’ve repeated 100s of times that we’ll reveal things ahead of launch to give people adequate time to still preorder the game for themselves. We’re saying this openly… Let us cook? Please and thank you.
Days ago, Digital Foundry pieced together a ‘performance review’ of Crimson Desert on PC, highlighting just how well it performs. The team noted that it ‘looks exceptionally impressive’ and is ‘rich in features and heavy on RT’.
Crimson Desert, which has one hell of a premise, a killer cast, and huge expectations, drops on March 19.
