Dying Light Celebrates 50 Million Player Milestone with New Content and ‘Infected Outbreak’ Event

Techland has today announced a major milestone for Dying Light, with the series hitting a whopping 50 million players in 11 years. That’s up five million from the last revelation, made around one year ago, giving us an idea of how well Dying Light: The Beast sold.

To celebrate the milestone and anniversary, Techland has unveiled content updates coming to Dying Light (2015) and Dying Light 2: Stay Human (2022), including an all-new ‘Infected Outbreak’ event for the latter title.

Nothing new has been announced just yet for Dying Light: The Beast (2025), but it’s assumed it won’t be forgotten.

Dying Light Continues to Impress with Post-Apocalyptic Frenzies

In a graphic published by Techland, it was confirmed that more than 30 billion zombies have been slaughtered by the 50 million Dying Light players over the years. More than 1.2 billion quests have been completed, and a whopping 28.3 trillion has been accrued in in-game currency.

That’s across Dying Light, Dying Light 2: Stay Human, and Dying Light: The Beast.

To celebrate this milestone, Techland is preparing a string of updates and special events. In a new press release, the team wrote:

To celebrate 11 years of zombie apocalypse, survival and parkour, Techland has reaffirmed its commitment to the franchise with a series of updates, celebrations and sales to further cement the reputation of this incredible success story. These will take the form of in-game events in the original Dying Light, its sequel Dying Light 2: Stay Human, and will offer new ways to enjoy the immersive post-apocalyptic world overrun by hordes of the zombies.

It was stressed that two popular events will return to 2015’s Dying Light, and Dying Light 2 will get something totally new. The newer game will get a three-week event named Infected Outbreak, which will see huge numbers of infected swarm Villedor, forcing the player to maintain control as they try to take over.

For participating in the event, you can unlock a skin that (ironically) turns Aidan into Kyle Crane from last year’s Dying Light: The Beast. In terms of paid content, the team at Techland has also produced ‘The Black Hand’ bundle, an attractive pack that adds a smart, mysterious skin (with added objectives, a slick katana, handgun skin, charm, and new glider cosmetic.

The heart of this update is arguably the Infected Outbreak event, and we have extra information on that from Techland.

Players will need to defend the city of Villedor over three weeks, contributing to a global effort to keep the region safe from the infected. There will be harsher conditions and more volatile infected enemies than ever before, with two ‘experimental variants’ being added specially for the event.

If players don’t keep up the fight, the hostile environment will become increasingly tougher for everyone involved.

This is all in addition to extra bounties in the Dying Light Outpost, special Lunar New Year decorations, and new collectibles that offer more backstory and lore, uncovering parts of a larger narrative.

Stay tuned, because more information is coming in the next few weeks!
