How To Play Hytale In 3rd-Person POV—Hytale Third-Person Controls, Explained

You can spend a lot of time and effort to make your character look great, but what good is your Hytale avatar if you can see it as much as John Cena? This is why changing to a third-person perspective can make all the difference in Hytale.

Being able to see your character creation skills in Hytale is part of the fun, in addition to a few glaring positives. What’s the point of slapping a triple-layered Viking beard, a hat with cat ears on, and a cape on your avatar if they’re hidden behind the camera? This needs to be fixed: Cue 3rd-Person mode.

There are two ways to switch to a third-person POV in Hytale: Change this from the game’s Settings menu, or quickly switch to 3rd person through an in-game keybind.

In-Game

To avoid wading through menu screens, you can simply press the V key on PC to toggle between first-person and third-person. This is by far the quickest and most efficient way to cycle between the two visual modes.

1st person is the default setting, but many people prefer a 3rd-person view. Also, if you press the C key, you get a front-facing third-person perspective of your character—that’s neat, huh?

It’s a bit more fiddly and cumbersome to execute, so it’s not recommended to play Hytale like this. But it gives you a great shot of your avatar’s front profile and how they’re looking.

Settings

Here are the instructions if you want to see the camera settings and adjust them manually:

  1. Press the Esc key to bring up the menu screen.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Select the Gameplay tab.
  4. Scroll down to the Camera sub-menu.
  5. Choose First Person or Third Person.
  6. You can also Remember Last Used as a permanent way to select your camera setting.
  7. Pick Save Changes, and then return to the game.

Should You Play In First-Person Or Third-Person In Hytale?

Insider Gaming recommends a first-person POV over 3rd person, as you can see more of the world and dangers around you, and it’s also the best way to admire your character and the work you put into crafting them.

It’s always an oddity for FPS games or titles with a fixed first-person camera to have skins and customization choices, but have no 3rd-person POV. How can you possibly enjoy the subtle cosmetic flourishes of your avatar?

3rd person is the way, and it’s definitely the best way to see and sense trouble looming around you that you otherwise wouldn’t see in 1st person.
