Resident Evil Requiem Leak Might Have Revealed New Playable Character

In a post on Reddit, eagle-eyed users unveiled a tidbit posted potentially inadvertently by GameStop. On a listing for Resident Evil Requiem’s Deluxe Edition on PC, it was suggested that another playable character will emerge in the game: Rosemary Winters, the daughter of Mia and Ethan Winters.

The timeline throws some things into question, as fans have pointed out that Rosemay should be a child when Resident Evil Requiem is set, but there’s a theory floating around.

Who is the Second Playable Character in Resident Evil Requiem?

This is one of the most talked-about topics in recent months, with many wondering who the ‘other playable character’ is in Resident Evil Requiem alongside Grace Ashcroft. The running theory is that it’s Leon Kennedy, the iconic Resi character who debuted in 1998’s Resident Evil 2.

(Updated: I previously wrote Leon Kennedy was introduced in 2005’s Resident Evil 4, apparently forgetting that Resident Evil 2 was my first Resi title way back on the PlayStation, and it scared the hell out of me. I then revisited it later with the Resident Evil 2 Remake and smashed it! Thanks to Rino for highlighting this error.)

But a recent leak published by GameStop has suggested otherwise.

In the product description for the Deluxe Edition of Requiem, it clearly states:

The Deluxe Edition includes the PC Steam Digital Code, a SteelBook Case, and the following digital content:

  • “The Sanctuary” Expansion Pass: Includes 2 new story scenarios and a major Mercenaries mode update.
  • “Morphic Visor” Cosmetic Filter: A unique cosmetic look for Rose’s visor.
  • “Shadow Walker” Costume Pack: 3 exclusive outfits for Rosemary Winters.
  • Digital Artbook & Official Soundtrack

The fans on Reddit have theorized that some kind of time jump will happen somewhere, as the alternative would be to control a Rosemary Winters at just six or seven years old, if the timeline wasn’t amended in some way.

Given that she has a string of outfits and some kind of ‘visor’ mechanic, it suggests that Rosemary Winters won’t sit in the chronology without some kind of alteration.

In 2022, Resident Evil Village received a piece of DLC called Shadows of Rose, and it showed Rosemary Winters at 16 years of age and ‘struggling with terrifying powers’. It was set in the year 2037, while Resident Evil Requiem is set around 2025-26.

Many have dubbed the GameStop listing ‘false’ and some have accused the company of using AI without sense-checking the information to get the page up.

Whatever the truth of it is, we’ll likely know what’s happening when The Game Awards airs later this week.

Do you think GameStop is right and that Rose Winters will resurface in some way? Let us know on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
