During a new interview, the Metal Gear Solid series producer spoke about how difficult it was to port MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots to current-gen consoles and systems.
Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake was recently released and had a successful launch, selling over 1 million copies in just 2 days. It seems fans want to play the next parts as well; however, after the producer’s comments, it appears that developing a current-gen port for MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots isn’t as easy as it looks.
Metal Gear Solid 4 Had a Very Unique Code
During a new interview with a Japanese publication called Real Sound (via Genki_JPN on X), Metal Gear Solid series producer, Noriaki Okamura, was asked about MGS 4 coming to current-gen consoles. Okamura first stated that “the hardware at the time required a very particular design to produce 3D performance with the technology available at the time.” Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was a PlayStation 3 exclusive title, released in 2008.
Okamura added that Metal Gear Solid 4 also has “quite a unique code,” and these factors make it “tough to bring it over now”, the producer said laughingly. The producer’s statement doesn’t outright reject the idea of a port, but does reveal that it won’t be easy if they plan to do so.
In other news, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s multiplayer mode, Fox Hunt, was released this October. Additionally, Delta Force is going to feature a Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater crossover soon. What are your thoughts on the series producer stating it’s difficult to port Metal Gear Solid 4?
