In a recent clip pulled from a stream, OpTic Texas’ Anthony ‘Shotzzy’ Cuevas-Castro divulged his opinion on Black Ops 7, which many pro players and streamers are accessing early, because they’re all in New Zealand. He said that it ‘feels insane in a bad way’ and stressed that it feels as though there’s no aim assist at all.
The comments were lit up with jibes that pro players are going to be exposed this year if Activision’s studios have considerably pulled back on the aim assist front for controller players.
Was Aim Assist Nerfed in Black Ops 7?
Most of the world will be playing Black Ops 7 tomorrow, but today, it’s the New Zealand trick that’s getting folks through the doors.
That includes the likes of Shotzzy, arguably the face of OpTic Texas and a back-to-back-to-back Call of Duty world champion. He won the Call of Duty League Championship in 2024, then again in 2025, and followed it up with a win at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh.
But in a recent clip that surfaced on social media, Shotzzy doesn’t appear to be having a good time in the latest Call of Duty game:
He dubbed the aim assist mechanics in Black Ops 7 ‘insane in a bad way’ and said that he ‘feels like he has no aim assist at all’. He ‘wasn’t even trolling’, either.
In the comments under the clip, some were quick to call out Shotzzy. One user wrote, ‘Oh no, the game’s not aiming for me, I’ve been exposed for being a s*** player.’ Another said, ‘Controller players realizing how heavily they leaned on this crutch is amazing. Cry more.’
Shotzzy was playing with Huke, his teammate on OpTic Texas, who mentioned that they’ll need to learn how to aim again. If that’s true, it could be an interesting season ahead for OpTic Texas.
