How to Get Chespin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A—Chespin Location, Explained

Chespin returns in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, albeit not with the title of a starter like it was when we first visited the Kalos region, and is available to recruit to your ranks. We’ve got all the details on how to recruit it.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A has a new trio of starters to choose from, but the original Kalos trio are available to encounter in the game, much like the Sinnoh starters were in Legends: Arceus. However, they are harder to track down.

If you’re on the hunt for a Chespin to join your ranks, or want to Shiny hunt the Pokémon, we’ve got all the important details.

Like the other Kalos starters in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Chespin is first available as a Gift Pokémon for completing an early side quest.

Side Mission 7: A Fiesty Chespin hands you the task of stopping an angry Chespin from picking a fight with a taxi, requiring you to defeat it three times back-to-back to calm it down. Once you’ve quelled its temper, Chespin joins your ranks, but it is Shiny Locked at this stage.

The Side Mission is unlocked after you head to Emma’s office and complete the game’s first three introductory side missions, and is triggered from a taxi rank in Academie Etoile near to Wild Zone 3. Interact with Axi, stood by his Taxi, to start the encounter.

As mentioned, Chespin is Shiny Locked at this stage, but you can catch Chespin multiple times later in the game.

Where to Catch Chespin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Chespin becomes available to catch in Pokémon Legends: Z-A later in the game once Wild Zone 17 is unlocked, though it only spawns one at a time.

Wild Zone 17 becomes available once you reach Rank C in the Z-A Royale, with Chespin waiting near a tree in the lower part of the zone during the day. It’s not a guaranteed spawn, however, so you may need to check back multiple times.

Unlike Fennekin, which is shy and will disappear if spotted, Chespin is ready for a fight and will attack if it spots you, so be prepared to take it down and then toss a Pokéball.
