How to Get The Shiny Charm in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

The Shiny Charm is the creme de la creme of items available in the Pokémon franchise, significantly boosting your odds of encountering Shiny Pokémon, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A brings the item back once again.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus made Shiny hunting arguably the best it has ever been with a jingle and animation that triggered whenever a Shiny Pokémon appeared, which has returned from Legends: Z-A, but nothing is as important to Shiny hunting as the Shiny charm.

Obtaining the Shiny Charm is certainly a long-term goal in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but we’ve got all the details of what you need to do to be granted the item.

The Shiny Charm in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is distributed for reaching Level 50 in Mable’s Research, which requires completing plenty of requests.

Early on in the Legends: Z-A story, you meet Mable and are asked to assist in her research into why an influx of wild Pokémon have ventured into Lumiose City and regularly Research Requests will be issued for you to complete—a mechanic that is similar to Legends: Arceus, where you helped the Professor create the first Pokédex.

Research Requests in Legends: Z-A come in various forms, ranging from registering a specified number of Pokémon in your Pokédex to capturing Pokémon of a specific type and winning battles. As you progress through the main story of Legends: Z-A and complete requests, more will be unlocked.

While the majority of the rewards earned through Mable’s Research are TMs to teach your Pokémon new moves, several items are available by rising through the ranks, including a host of Experience Candies to boost your Pokémon’s levels. On top of this, there’s also a Master Ball available.

The Shiny Charm is undoubtedly the most illustrious prize of all, though, opening the doors to better odds in your hunt for Shiny Pokémon, although you can encounter them at any point in the game.

Are There Shiny-Locked Pokémon in Legends: Z-A?

Yes, some Pokémon in Legends: Z-A are Shiny-Locked and cannot be encountered through legitimate means in their Shiny form, regardless of whether you have the Shiny Charm or not.

As usual, Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, including Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde, are all Shiny-Locked in Legends: Z-A, as are Gift Pokémon you receive through story progression.

The starter you choose in Legends: Z-A is also Shiny-Locked, although you can catch these Pokémon again later in the game, with their Shiny forms then available.
