How to Get Fennekin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A—Fennekin Location, Explained

Fennekin may have been dethroned from its position as a starter in Lumiose City for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but the cute Fire-Type fox remains available to add to your ranks, and we’ve got all the details.

While Pokémon Legends: Z-A followed in the footsteps of its predecessor, Legends: Arceus, by introducing a new trio of starters, the original Kalos starters, including Fennekin, remain available to encounter in the game.

There are some restrictions, however, and we’ve got all the details you need to add Fennekin to your Pokémon Legends: Z-A ranks.

Fennekin is first available as a gift Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A for completing a particular side quest and is available early in the story.

Side Mission 8: Get Well, Fennekin puts you on a trek around Lumiose City to find a Revitalizing Twig to nurse Fennekin back to health. Once the twig has been returned to the Kalos starter, it joins your ranks. Like all other gift Pokémon in the game, this Fennekin is Shiny Locked.

The Side Mission unlocks when you reach Rank X in the Z-A Royale, and is initiated by speaking to Branche in the Magenta District. The big giveaway is the Fennekin curled up on the ground, found in a small park behind a building to the left of Prism Tower.

After speaking to the Herbalist, head to Wild Zone 5 to reach the area to search, which requires crawling through the sewer area. Check all the locations marked on the map to find the Revitalizing Twig and beware of the Alpha Whirlipede waiting to pounce.

When the mission is completed, Fennekin is recruited and takes a spot in your Party or in the box. Later in the game though, you can catch more Fennekin and hunt for a Shiny Fennekin.

Where to Catch Fennekin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Fennekin is not available to catch in Pokémon Legends: Z-A until late in the game when you unlock Wild Zone 18. However, this is earlier than you can encounter the Kanto starters in the wild.

Wild Zone 18 is available after you reach Rank B in the Z-A Royale, spawning on the rooftops. This Pokémon is very shy, much like other Pokémon like Abra and Espurr, and will quickly disappear if it spots you. To counter this, sneak up on it and engage in a battle.

Through this means, Fennekin is available to Shiny hunt, but the fact that it spawns on its own rather than in a group puts the odds against you. Still, it’s worth the push, and obtaining the Shiny Charm provides a huge boost to the odds.
