Lumiose City has opened its doors again in Pokémon Legends: Z-A and there are hundreds of familiar Pokémon waiting to be encountered, including Squirtle, and we’ve got the details on how to get it.
The return of Mega Evolution is a huge lure in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but so is the return of an abundance of fan-favorite Pokémon to add to your collection and Shiny hunt.

How to Get Squirtle in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Squirtle is first available as a gifted Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A fairly near to the start of your adventure, though there is a difficult decision to make.
Once you find your feet within Lumiose City and take in the basics of what the location has to offer, including completing some of Mable’s Research Tasks, you are invited back to her office.
Upon arrival, there are three Pokémon waiting who will be more than familiar to you; Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. Mable has been entrusted with looking after the trio and is seeking reliable Pokémon trainers to take care of them.
You won’t get the full trio, however, and must choose one to take into your ranks. The choice is also Shiny Locked, though Shiny versions can be encountered later on, along with the duo you opted not to select.
Where to Catch Squirtle in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Just like the other Kanto starters, Squirtle is waiting to be found in Wild Zone 20, though it will take a lot of in-game progression to reach that point.
Similar to Legends: Arceus, the starter options you didn’t choose at the start, and the remaining two Kanto starters you overlooked, are available to catch and Shiny hunt. However, this isn’t available until the post-game, meaning the choices you make at the start are even more important.
Wild Zone 20 is unlocked after you complete Main Mission 38: The Future of Lumiose City. This is right at the end of the base game, after the main story, and serves as part of the introduction to the abundance of post-game content that is available in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
