Online data of Steam’s player numbers has revealed that Battlefield 6 had five times the number of players during its Open Beta than Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s.
During its peak, Battlefield 6 accumulated 521,079 concurrent players on Steam during its open beta, and 334,549 during its closed beta. Comparatively, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s Open Beta reached a peak of just 99,574 yesterday, but Call of Duty’s numbers also include those from Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone.
In addition, according to TwitchTracker, interest in Battlefield appears to be significantly higher than that of Call of Duty, with Battlefield 6’s Beta reaching a peak viewer count of 868,520 on Twitch. In comparison, Call of Duty peaked at 378,150 in September for CODNext and 204,419 during the Beta.
However, with these numbers circulating on the internet, is there an unfair comparison?
As rightfully pointed out by those online and Activision itself in a previous statement to us, comparing Steam numbers between the two games could be an unfair comparison, as Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is available on various platforms, including consoles, Steam, Battle.net, and Xbox PC. Whereas Battlefield 6 is available on consoles, Steam, and EA Play.
An Activision spokesperson said to Insider Gaming, “The Black Ops 7 Beta is off to a great start. The momentum and excitement from the community have been tremendous. We’re seeing great engagement across all platforms –PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Battle.net, the Xbox PC app, and Steam).”
Also linked to us from Activision was the PlayStation Store page, which, although it features Battlefield 6 at the top, indicates that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s editions are listed right behind and are by no means struggling in what has become a fascinating battle for the top between both games.

Thank God. If BF6 wins this year, expect MAJOR changes to COD. The worst part? They’re just going to try and copy bf6 in some way. What original idea have they come up woth in the past 5 years?? The COD franchise is stagnant and I bought BO6 last year. Traded it back within a month.
