Resident Evil Requiem Bosses Will Have Players ‘Using their Wits’

Resident Evil Requiem developers have confirmed that the game will feature boss battles, requiring players to use their brains to overcome them.

The developers continue to tease more about Resident Evil Requiem as we approach its February 2026 release window. Most recently, the devs confirmed that the ninth instalment in the series is ‘almost an upgrade‘ of RE2’s style of horror and gameplay. Now, they have elaborated on one of the most interesting topics for players, RE9 boss fights.

Resident Evil Requiem Boss Fights Will Prioritize Wits Over Gun-Shooting Action

The game director for Resident Evil Requiem, Koshi Nakanishi, spoke about the title’s boss fights during a new interview with Automaton. Nakanishi first confirmed that the game will feature boss battles. He then discussed how it wouldn’t feature Bosses being defeated in a flashy manner, with an emphasis on gun-shooting action. Instead, the game will be more like RE1 and RE2, “where players expand their exploration area in a closed space and overcome obstacles using their wits.”

The developers also discussed how the Resident Evil series features characters who are initially terrified but grow to become fearless when faced with extreme situations. Grace’s experience is similar to that of others, where she is scared and the problem becomes severe enough to drive her to a breaking point, eventually allowing her to fight her enemies. The developers feel that “being able to experience this process of growth together with the protagonist is one of the highlights of the game.”

In other news, Resident Evil Requiem devs recently commented on the game’s leaks. Additionally, Leon’s gameplay in RE9 is reportedly focused on action. What are your thoughts on Resident Evil Requiem’s boss fights? Let us know through the official Insider Gaming forums discussion.
