New Simpsons Movie Coming After Almost 20 Years

20th Century Studios has just announced that a new Simpsons movie is set to drop on July 23, 2027, just two days short of twenty years after the first movie was released in 2007. The announcement came with a simple image posted on social media with the tagline ‘Homer’s coming back for seconds.’

When the first Simpsons movie came out in 2007, it was a different world, and the movie pushed boundaries in many ways. For some, it’s long overdue, and the consensus amongst fans of the franchise seems to be positive in response to the announcement.

The Simpsons Movie 2, Coming 2027

The Simpsons has been on television (under that name) since 1990, while the family has existed since 1987. It’s the longest-running American animated series, sitcom, and scripted primetime television series, and it’s expected to run until at least 2029.

In 2007, The Simpsons Movie came out, grossing more than half a billion dollars at the box office and pulling in positive reviews. Now, thanks to an announcement from 20th Century Studios, we know that a follow-up is coming:

It’s safe to say that we know nothing about The Simpsons Movie 2 (if that’s even the name of it). We’ve got the release date announcement, but that’s it. It’s now open to complete conjecture from fans as to what the film will contain, but it’ll take almost two years for that content to be delivered.

Now, let’s just get working on a Simpsons Hit and Run 2, and we’ll be in business, right?

What do you want to see from the first major Simpsons movie in almost twenty years? Let me know on the Insider Gaming forum.

  • Hit & Run needs a cel shaded remake. This however will be bad the Simpsons went full politics and went downhill fast the 2010’s seasons have their good and bad but the politics ruined it and even the 2000’s seasons aren’t awful like the modern seasons which also have bad animation. King Of The Hill and Futurama have the same problem. What made them is now gone for politics which they claim is “modernization” when it’s really not and worse animation quality down the toilet. Bobs Burgers movie flopped

  • Way too late. If this was years ago then yes before they got political. Even worse animation on these things got worse look how bad Futurama and King Of The Hill got. Hit & Run needs a remake though cel shaded and I wouldn’t mind the same for Futurama to get a game same way but they won’t do it the current writers would ruin it. Solar Opposites needs a game like multiple first could be set around the first season cel shaded and Hit & Run style, second could be more GTA 5 and set in the Wood City during season 2. The Wall as a game would be good too.
