Stranger Than Heaven, the newest IP from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, got a new behind-the-scenes trailer at Tokyo Game Show 2025.
Announced in 2024, the game, originally known as Project Century, maintains the style of Yakuza/Like a Dragon. However, the story seems to take place over different time periods. So far, we’ve seen 1915, 1929, and 1943, and follow a mysterious protagonist named Mako Daito. Trailers have shown some gameplay and kept the narrative under wraps. Fortunately, today’s RGG Summit and RGG Direct gave us new information on the game, including some behind-the-scenes footage.
Stranger Than Heaven Trailer Showcases Game’s Development
The trailer, seen above, shows off a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s engine and production. We did see mo-cap actors doing combat and dynamic weather systems in play. No new story details or direct gameplay were shown, unfortunately. However, we did get to hear more of the jazz number from the last trailer, now rendered in-engine.
Stranger Than Heaven is the first new IP from Ryu Ga Gotoku in quite some time. It is not explicitly connected to Yakuza/Like a Dragon, but it does feel like Judgment and Lost Judgment with the brutal combat and style. Still, the time period changes are a cool addition, given that we’ll get to see Sotenbori, Osaka as it grows into the metropolis fans know. Plus, as it sets itself apart from other titles, it can be seen as the next generation for the studio and, perhaps, a breakthrough game.
