EA has confirmed that Battlefield 6 doesn’t have console-only crossplay, and when crossplay is turned off, players only match with others on their respective platforms.
During an interview a couple of days ago, senior combat designer Matthew Nickerson discussed a console-only crossplay mode for Battlefield 6, confirming that PlayStation players will be able to play with Xbox players when crossplay is disabled. However, EA has since then revealed that this isn’t how BF6’s crossplay works.
Disabling Crossplay On Battlefield 6 Will Only Match You With Players on Your Platform
A new report by Dexerto reveals that EA confirmed there is no console-only crossplay mode for Battlefield 6 during a recent capture event. When console players have crossplay enabled, other console players will be prioritized for the lobby. If more players are needed, PC players will fill the remaining spots. If crossplay is turned off, then console players will only matchmake with players on their platforms, so Xbox and PlayStation players can’t play Battlefield 6 together when crossplay is disabled.
Nickerson was correct about how crossplay works when it’s switched on, but incorrect about when it’s switched off. The excitement of a console-only crossplay mode, where only Xbox and PlayStation players could matchmake, was short-lived. Regardless, players will still hope that developers find a way to release this mode in the future.
