Borderlands 4 has a location that might be taunting Gearbox’s former owner, Embracer.
In case you haven’t heard it or seen it on London’s Biggest Train Station and the Vegas Sphere, Borderlands 4 finally releases tomorrow, September 12, 2025. Ahead of the launch, we have learned various details about the game, including the 30 billion guns, the most extensive map ever, and so much more. Now, we have learned that there might be a location in Borderlands 4 that seems to be a reference to Embracer.
Borderlands 4 Has a Location Called ‘Embracer’s Bluff’
According to a report by Kotaku, there’s a location in Borderlands 4 called ‘Embracer’s Bluff’, which could be a reference to Gearbox’s former owner, Embracer. It is a tiny, rundown town with a massive trash pile at its center, which the locals frequent. When you are in the area, flying creatures will constantly attack you, and you can take on two quests.
One of the quests is related to a vending machine that kills a person who was trying to use it. The other is related to an evil AI toilet that everyone hates. Players also get to meet Embracer’s Bluff’s king in Borderlands 4 during the evil AI toilet quest, who is a weird guy sitting in a hot tub. No other details were revealed that might tie this town directly to Gearbox’s former owner, Embracer.
For those unaware, Embracer Group began acquiring various development studios a couple of years ago, and one of those studios was Gearbox. However, in 2023, the group announced restructuring and sold Gearbox to Take-Two Interactive in 2024 for half the price the company had paid initially. This sale occurred during the development of Borderlands 4. A recent report by PC Gamer also highlights Randy Pitchford, stating that the sale of Gearbox inspired the story of Borderlands 4.
Regardless, this is all speculation and hasn’t been confirmed by the developers.
In other news, the Embracer CEO has stated that the company is moving forward with “targeted cost initiatives” and will increase its use of AI.
