The long wait for Borderlands 4 is over, bringing a new adventure across the planet of Kairos, and this guide has all the details on whether the title supports cross-progression.
Released September 12, Borderlands 4 caught our eye in our hands-on preview at Gamescom and is set to be one of the biggest releases of the year, coming in a packed September schedule.
While cross-progression remains an important part of modern gaming, it’s often omitted from some big titles. We’ve got all the information in that regard for Borderlands 4.
Does Borderlands 4 Have Cross-Progression?

No, Borderlands 4 does not support cross-progression or cross-save functionality, with the omission of the features confirmed ahead of launch.
In a Steam post last month, it was confirmed that crossplay is available in the game, allowing players to team up with friends across other platforms. However, the support does not extend to cross-progression or cross-save.
This means you won’t be able to switch from two different platforms and continue with the same character, nor will you be able to transfer save progress—instead, any move to a different platform results in a restart of your Vault-Hunting adventure.
That doesn’t necessarily mean things will stay that way forever, though, as there has been a significant hint that the feature is on the cards to be added as part of post-launch updates.
Will Cross-Progression be Added to Borderlands 4?
Cross-progression is expected to be added to Borderlands 4 in the future, with the development team confirming the feature is “on our radar.”
No timeframe has been shared for when such a feature could be added to Borderlands 4, and whether it will arrive before any inevitable DLC for the title. It does, however, confirm that community feedback has been heard and steps are likely to be taken to resolve this point of frustration.
This isn’t a new situation for the franchise, however, as Borderlands 3 also lacked any cross-progression support, but hopefully, this will be changing, with future launches having the feature from the off.
As soon as we hear more on the matter, we’ll be sure to update this article.
