If you’re here, chances are you’ve come across Hollow Knight: Silksong’s ominous-looking red flowers. They don’t look like they do much at first glance. But you need to master a simple technique to get past them, as they appear all over Hunter’s March.
A Metroidvania staple is presenting a player with an object or obstacle and leaving you to wonder if you can get past it now or later. Many instances require you to come back with a double jump or dash, but there are certain scenarios where it’s very much ambiguous. A couple of hours into Hollow Knight: Silksong should lead you to the unmissable sight of a hanging red flower.
If you’re questioning if you need a certain ability or item to interact with them, read on for all the answers.
How Do You Use Red Flowers in Hollow Knight: Silksong?

The only way to use and get past the red flowers in Hollow Knight: Silksong is to jump into the air and execute a downward-diagonal attack to bounce on them.
One of the biggest gameplay differences between Hollow Knight and Silksong is the downward strike. In Hollow Knight, attacking downwards did exactly that. Now, you can only do a diagonal strike left or right. It changes the way you approach enemies and hittable objects.
You leap into the air with the jump button, and press/pull down and to the left or right, and then press the attack button.
Silksong wants you to time a diagonal jump perfectly so that you hit the red flower at impact, and it causes Hornet to bounce into the air. This is how you get past the red flowers in Silksong—you don’t need an ability or an item, just good timing!
How Do You Get Through Hunter’s March?

The main way to get through Hunter’s March is by accessing it through the West side and using downward strikes on flowers to traverse the various deadly chasms and environmental dangers.
We’re quite shocked to see Hunter’s March in Hollow Knight: Silksong so early on. It’s a sudden difficulty spike that forces you to master an advanced platforming manoeuvre. You eventually access Hunter’s March through the South via the Deep Docks, but it’s merely a different access point.
The Marrows is the main route to Hunter’s March, and you might not even realize this because knowing how to deal with the pesky red flowers isn’t intuitive.
We advise you to keep practicing and get the hang of the diagonal jumps, the timing window, how Hornet reacts to the initial bounce, and stringing together multiple jumps in a row. Otherwise, you’re going to be chasing your fallen Rosary Beads quite regularly.
