PlayStation held a conference (thanks Zhuge Ex) in Shanghai to announce the official launch of the fourth phase of its China Hero Project — a bold initiative aimed at nurturing game development talent across China.
Building on the experience gained from the previous three phases, this new chapter promises to be the most ambitious yet. PlayStation has enlisted major industry partners to support participating studios, signaling a deeper commitment to the region’s growing game development scene.
Among the collaborators is Virtuos, known for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which will serve as a co-dev on select titles. RichTap will contribute advanced haptic feedback integration, while PlayStation’s own Visual Arts studio will assist with UI/UX evaluation to ensure high production standards.
The Chinese market is important to PlayStation
This move clearly reflects PlayStation’s satisfaction with the project’s progress so far — and its intent to double down on investment. Chinese-developed games are gaining increasing visibility on the global stage, making this strategic expansion a natural next step.
Three titles from the initiative — Daba: Land of Water, Scar, and EXILEDGE — have been confirmed to receive additional funding.
Earlier this year, we saw the release of AI Limit. Lost Soul Aside, a game from the project’s inaugural phase, is expected to launch after 29th August after undergoing significant development changes.
