Recently, new vacancies at Rockstar Games were uncovered, pointing towards an intention to foster a ‘creator economy’ in Grand Theft Auto 6. These new job listings are centered around user-generated content, player builds, monetization, and the expansion of the ‘Rockstar video platform strategy’ tailored to GTA RP viewership.
The most telling listing, which advertises a vacancy for a Senior Product Manager on the Creator Platform team in New York, gives away plenty about Rockstar’s plans for Grand Theft Auto 6.
‘FiveM, RedM, and Related Products’
The job listing for the Creator Platform team that was uncovered by PCGamesN explains that Rockstar is hunting for a Senior Product Manager to drive creator relations and functionality across a range of GTA RP products:
Rockstar Games is seeking a Senior Product Manager to drive key product initiatives across our Creator Platforms, which includes FiveM, RedM, and related products. As a member of our team, you will bring a critical and creative eye to identify and propose innovative solutions to complex problems.
You will be responsible for cultivating and executing a clear vision for our platforms, while collaborating with a wide array of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The focus of this job is centered around community-created content, hosted on fully customizable servers, that allows users to ‘develop their own game modes and other modifications.’
As a Senior Product Manager at Rockstar, the successful applicant will be driving the end-to-end product process of teams involved with monetization, experience discovery, customer experience, and viewership. There were a few references made to the video side of things, suggesting that Rockstar is actively expanding its video platform strategy focused on GTA RP.
It’s no big secret that GTA RP is what has kept Grand Theft Auto 5 alive for so long on streaming platforms.
The Senior Product Manager will also be responsible for developing a ‘product-focused lens on emerging trends in UGC.’ This will help Rockstar size up acquisition and partnership opportunities.
What are the key takeaways from this?
- GTA RP, modded servers, and community-created content are already being sized up for GTA 6, almost a year before the game hits the open market.
- Rockstar Games intends to promote some kind of creator economy, leaning into viewership, UGC, and monetization models that could benefit the creator as well as Rockstar itself.
- The biggest GTA RP servers (FiveM, RedM) are on PC, which might suggest that Rockstar plans an earlier launch on the platform than we first thought.
