WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers Soars on Steam Despite ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ Reviews

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers was released today, and the game has already skyrocketed on Steam, hitting 114,000 peak users within a couple of hours. However, the good news regarding the growth has been marred by an ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ rating represented by 7,306 bad reviews on Steam.

At the time of publishing, the split was jarring for WUCHANG, with just 16.3% of all reviews showing some kind of positivity.

WUCHANG’s Engine Has Unreal Issues on Steam

The 7,300+ negative reviews for WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers are mostly bagging about the game’s performance and stability. Many comments claim that the Unreal Engine is causing immense issues in merely exploring the world and fighting run-of-the-mill enemies.

For instance, one user wrote, ‘UE5 games are a hit or miss when it comes to performance, and in this case, it’s a miss unfortunately.’ Another questioned the quality of the engine: ‘Another unstable UE5 title. Why are we not optimizing these games properly and promoting the use of frame gen and/or upscaling to fix the issue than making it an accessible feature if needed?’

Even the positive reviews appear to be tongue-in-cheek, with players praising WUCHANG’s appearance or some of her more revealing outfits and awarding the game a higher score as a result.

Despite the apparent failures of WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers on Steam, the game has drawn generally positive reviews from critics. At the time of writing, the game’s Metascore sat at 75, which isn’t terrible. In our review, we gave WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers a lofty 4 out of 5:

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is the start of an exciting new franchise Souls fans need to play.

The 114,000 peak players on Steam is nothing to be scoffed at, but it’s not encouraging that, so far, around 7% of all players on Steam have had such a bad time that they’ve felt the need to write about it.
