Last week, it was revealed that the Lollipop Chainsaw franchise is being expanded with ‘several new projects’. Now, the teams at NADA Holdings and Dragami Games have offered a little more information, unveiling a new game and an anime adaptation.
In a statement posted on the NADA Holdings site, it was confirmed that development is ‘already underway’ on the new game, but a comment about DEI posted at the end of the article has some fans concerned.
‘Close Attention to Fan Feedback’
In 2012, Lollipop Chainsaw emerged as a slightly bizarre and raunchy slasher, charging players to assume control of a teenage cheerleader with a massive chainsaw and a hate for the zombies taking over her hometown. It was re-released as Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP in September 2024, and by all accounts, it did quite well the second time around.
The latest news on the franchise has revealed that a new game is in development and an anime adaptation is planned, both of which are being ‘developed with close attention to fan feedback.’
However, a comment posted at the end of the recent blog post has some fans worried about what’s yet to be delivered:
As with the original, the new title aims to recreate a world rich in dark humor. The development process will prioritize staying true to the distinctive tone and spirit of the original work, without imposing excessive creative restrictions in the name of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).
Gamers on both side of the fence (for and against DEI inclusions) have expressed their own issues with that statement on social media.
Lollipop Chainsaw wasn’t controversial, but it was pushing the boundaries a little back in 2012. For instance, there was an achievement to be unlocked for successfully looking up the protagonist’s skirt.
It’s hard to tell what NADA Holdings and Dragami Games was anticipating by mentioning the DEI comment in the blog post. We’ll have to wait and see what’s eventually revealed when the time is right.
