Battlefield 6’s Open Beta will include options for players to play with open weapons or closed weapons, the latter offering a more classic Battlefield experience.
Despite receiving significant pushback from the community on freedom with weapon types, regardless of class, the system remains in place for the new title—but there will be options available for those who prefer a more classic experience.
The choice will come via playlist options, putting players in an experience with like-minded players who want the same experience, it has been announced.
Battle 6 Open Beta Playlist Options

The news came via a post on X (formerly Twitter) from the official Battlefield account, which played into the open weapons vs closed weapons debate with a “why not both?” outcome chosen for Battlefield 6.
In the announcement, it was confirmed that “players can choose official playlists with Signature Weapons locked to class, or not,” adding that there was “more to come” on the news.

The approach should favor players on both sides of the argument, adding options that appeal to both, though it remains to be seen which option will be favored by the majority of the community and which option Battlefield 6 decides is the “core” system.
A controversial move away from class-specific weapons first occured in Battlefield 2042, with the approach remaining for Battlefield 6 despite its unpopularity. An option to play with the classic format, however, is an outcome that should suit all players.
Further details should be right around the corner, with Insider Gaming exclusively reporting that a full reveal for Battlefield 6 is set for July 31 in a “COD Next” style event, which came on the back of content creators being sent care packages.
