The fight to defend democracy and Super Earth is coming to a new platform, following news that Helldivers 2 is set for an Xbox release. We’ve got all the details you need here.
Helldivers 2 was one of PlayStation’s biggest games in 2024, though it also released on PC, and it seemed unlikely that Sony would ever strike an agreement with Microsoft to bring the game to Xbox. However, on July 3, news emerged that an Xbox release was imminent.
Though you still need to wait a little bit longer for Helldivers 2 on Xbox, there is finally a date set in stone, and all the details are found here.
When Does Helldivers 2 Release on Xbox?
Helldivers 2 releases on Xbox on Tuesday, August 26. The arrival comes after a long period of PlayStation 5 and PC exclusivity, with the title initially released to rave plaudits in February 2024.
No exact release times have been shared so far, however, but it’s likely to be a staggered global release, becoming available to players when the clock strikes midnight in your timezone. Of course, if that is the case, it opens the door to use the New Zealand trick to jump in early.
The release of Helldivers 2 on Xbox is a major drop, though, marking the first time a Sony-published game has released on the Microsoft platform. Players will hope that this opens the door for more titles to make the move, particularly with Xbox’s own shift in approach bringing more of their titles to the rival console.
Though the peak numbers of Helldivers 2 has dropped since then, the title remains extremely popular and the arrival on Xbox should provide a further bump to the numbers—particularly as it’s highly likely the arrival on a new platform will coincide with a fresh drop of content in the game.
Helldivers 2’s most recent update, the Heart of Democracy, dropped on May 20, which brought the fight straight to Super Earth in the bid to repel the Illuminate invasion, with the Force of Law Warbond following on June 12.
Will Helldivers 2 be on Xbox Game Pass?
No, there is no news on Helldivers 2 arriving on Xbox Game Pass and it would be a huge shock if it was to be included in the service.
It’s a big step for Sony to release one of their licensed games onto the Microsoft platform, and adding it to the Game Pass service would be another big leap forward. On top of this, PlayStation has it’s own service, PlayStation Plus, for free games, and Helldivers 2 isn’t even included there.
While it’s by no means impossible for Helldivers 2 to land a spot in the Game Pass catalog in the future, we can file this one under extremely unlikely.
