MindsEye Will Be ‘Relaunched’ As CEO Blames ‘Saboteurs’

It has been suggested by Build a Rocket Boy CEO Leslie Benzies that MindsEye, the shamed failure of a game that was released last month, will be ‘relaunched’ as reviews continue to plummet. It has also been claimed by BARB employees that the CEO once again blamed saboteurs for the demise of MindsEye, echoing something his co-CEO said several weeks ago.

In the days after MindsEye was released, it became regarded by the numbers as the worst-rated game of 2025.

Bouncing Back

In statements obtained by IGN, it was claimed that Leslie Benzies, former President of Rockstar North, addressed the company following the harrowing release of MindsEye. In some ways, MindsEye was touted as being a ‘GTA killer’, but what was produced fell flat drastically fast and became a laughing stock of the industry.

Even Alex Hernandez, the game’s lead performer, suggested games should never launch in an ‘unfinished’ state.

Here’s what was taken from IGN’s report:

‘BARB sources told IGN that Benzies finally addressed staff following the release of MindsEye in a brief video call yesterday, July 2. According to two people present who asked not to be named in order to protect their careers, Benzies insisted BARB would bounce back and relaunch MindsEye, blaming the studio and the game’s struggles on internal and external saboteurs, among other things.’

In May, Mark Gerhard, the co-CEO at Build a Rocket Boy, went on record suggesting that people were being paid to talk negatively about MindsEye. When he was asked if someone was ‘financing’ all the negative feedback, he said ‘100% percent’.

Recently, vast swathes of the workforce at Build a Rocket Boy advertised a risk of redundancy on social media. Dozens of employees popped up on LinkedIn to stress their roles are at a precipice, adding extra strain to the industry, which has just been hit by Microsoft’s 9000-strong wave of redundancies.

Do you think MindsEye can be successfully relaunched after a stack of updates? Let me know on the Insider Gaming forum.
