Peter ‘dupreeh’ Rasmussen, one of the most iconic pro players in the Counter-Strike space, just appeared on stage at the Austin Major to officially announce his retirement from active competition. The crowd backed him as he became tearful during his farewell speech, looking back on 13 years of Counter-Strike esports.
In his time in the industry, Dupreeh made more than $2.2 million in winnings and secured the trophy at five international Major tournaments.
‘All Good Things Come to An End’
The emotional speech given by Dupreeh at the Austin Major left not a dry eye in the building. He has stepped back from more than a decade of high-profile competition in the Counter-Strike space that has taken him around the houses with many top-tier organisations:
- Dignitas
- TSM
- Astralis
- Vitality
- Heroic
- Falcons
In his closing message to the fans in Austin, Dupreeh said:
I’ve never been so nervous in my entire life.
Obviously all good things come to an end. It’s time to say goodbye.
When I first got to play Counter-Strike, I never imagined that we could gather so many people. At the time, my only goal was to make a name for myself, and I wanted to go there, and if I could just win one Major, that would be the goal for me and that would an achievement in itself.
Today, I stand with five titles, and I think that the only rightful way to do and say that this is the end of my career as a professional player is to do it on the biggest stage and to do it in front of all of you.

Dupreeh found a home on Team Falcons in the closing tournaments of his career, and while he didn’t go out with a bang, he went out with a solid following and a die-hard dedication to the esport that he helped grow over all these years.
