Mario Kart World relies on its tried and trusted CC difficulty setting. 200cc was added later on in Mario Kart 8’s lifecycle to test the mightiest of racers, so let’s see if Mario Kart World also features the setting.
If you’ve ever played a Mario Kart game, you’ll be familiar with the main settings: 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc. The engine sizes represent difficulty and how fast your vehicle goes. The bigger the number, the faster the engine, and the harder it is to control your kart.
Mario Kart 8 released 200cc as an option once the game had come out. Naturally, this elevated the game and offered a never-before-seen skill gap. With that said, let’s see if Nintendo has brought back 200cc mode in Mario Kart World.
Is 200cc in Mario Kart World?

Mario Kart World unfortunately does not feature a 200cc difficulty mode option.
If you’re looking for a challenge in Mario Kart World, you need to make do with 150cc. The news was confirmed by the game’s producer—Kosuke Yabuki—in an interview with Rolling Stone.
However, if this is a dealbreaker, not all hope is lost.
Will Mario Kart World Add 200cc?
Yabuki and Nintendo haven’t ruled out adding 200cc as an option for Mario Kart World players later down the line.
The Rolling Stone interview explained the history of “cc” and how it acts as a difficulty setting for the franchise. Yabuki was quizzed on the addition of a 200cc setting—à la Mario Kart 8’s post-launch content update.
“Some players are really happy with the addition of high difficulty modes like this. However, does that mean we’re going to consider adding engine sizes that are larger than 150cc to Mario Kart World? I’m afraid I can’t say just yet.”
Let’s be honest, if they weren’t going to add the option, he would probably say so. Plus, given how successful and lauded the 200cc mode was in Mario Kart 8, I think you and I can agree it’s a possibility bordering on inevitability.
We’ll update you if 200cc is added to Mario Kart World.
Are you disappointed that there’s no 200cc setting right now? Or does Mario Kart World have more than enough content for you to be getting on with? I’m interested to hear your thoughts, so drop a comment below, and head to the Insider Gaming forum for more Switch 2 and Mario Kart discussions.
