When is The Mario Kart World Review Embargo Date?

Mario Kart World ensures that the Nintendo Switch 2 has a new kart racer, and the review embargo date has millions of eyes around the world fixated on it as we learn how it compares to previous Mario Kart releases.

The Switch 2 has one main launch title: Mario Kart World. The series has (perhaps temporarily) dropped the numerical aspect of the game name. It’s fitting as Mario Kart World spans a huge area with many intertwining maps to create the most cohesive and connected Mario Kart experience ever.

Its array of new features—including 24-player races—is ambitious. This doesn’t guarantee a perfect game, so let’s see the latest details on the Mario Kart World review embargo.

The Mario Kart World Review Embargo date is expected to be June 5—when the Nintendo Switch 2 comes out alongside the game.

By now, we’ve usually had confirmation about a game’s review embargo window. However, as reported by The Game Business, most outlets aren’t receiving a Switch 2 console to review until near-enough launch, with others only getting them at launch or after.

Nintendo has told journalists that this is due to the requirement of a significant day one patch,” reports the site.

This means there is no time to review Mario Kart World, and therefore, reviews can start dropping from the second it launches. You can play Mario Kart World as much (if not more) as many outlets will get to, and in some ways, you can deliver your own verdict before the press gets an official say!

Things can change, and certain outlets may have gotten special dispensation from Nintendo. We are monitoring the situation and keeping an eye out for Mario Kart World review scores before then.

For now, expect reviews to start arriving from day one.

What Mario Kart World Review Scores Can we Expect?

Mario Kart World is likely to have an average score of high-80s once all the reviews are in.

If we look back at Mario Kart 8, Metacritic scored it 88/100 on the WiiU, and the Deluxe Edition got an improved 92/100. Whereas Mario Kart 7 got a respectable 85/100 once its review scores were averaged out.

There’s an element of the unknown with Mario Kart World. Because of its bigger races, new wall-riding and rail-grinding mechanics, fresh items, and integrated world, the changes could either skyrocket its review scores or hinder them.

Mario Kart games are usually great, so I think an average score of about 86 or 87 is fair.

More importantly, what Metacritic score do you think Mario Kart World is destined for? Are we aiming too low? Or is the newest Mario Kart racer too ambitious and likely to slip on a banana skin? Give our full thoughts via the Insider Gaming forum.
