Two executives from Build a Rocket Boy, the studio behind MindsEye, have left the company just one week before the game’s launch. The information was shared by Riley Graebner, former Chief Legal Officer, via his LinkedIn profile (thank you Eurogamer).
In addition to Riley, Paul Bland, former Chief Financial Officer, also departed from the studio. He had been with Build a Rocket Boy for two years. As expected, news of two executives leaving so close to a game’s release has raised concerns among fans, as such departures are highly unusual at this stage of development.
To make the situation even more controversial, both exits occurred one week after the studio’s co-CEO, Mark Gerhard, suggested that there is an active campaign against the game, fueling negative comments online. Mark’s theory surfaced following the release of game previews, in which many users who tested MindsEye stated that delaying the launch might be the best option to ensure a higher level of polish.
Eyes on the long term
Recently, Leslie Benzies, the mastermind behind MindsEye and former producer of the GTA franchise, spoke about the game’s campaign length. According to Leslie, the story can be completed in around 20 hours. While this may seem short to some, he assured that the studio plans to add content to the game over time, including multiplayer and a traditional open world.
MindsEye will be released on June 10 for consoles and PC. Do you plan to play it at launch? Tell us in the comments and join the discussion in our forum.
