6 Biggest Games we Need on Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 is sure to follow in the footsteps of previous hardware and keep us all entertained for nearly a decade. Its launch titles are stoking the fire, but to attract all gamers, we’ve come up with some seriously needed games that must be announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 sooner rather than later.

I love my Nintendo Switch. It’s fantastic for portable gaming, but I love hooking it up to my TV and enjoying a true gaming session. My living room has been graced by Zelda, Mario, Pokémon, and many other franchises from the Switch 1 era. But it’s time to move on and look forward to bigger and better gaming.

The Switch 2’s 4K HDR and 120 FPS capabilities guarantee high-quality gaming. Nintendo has a veritable catalog of hall-of-fame-worthy IPs—and we’re seeing them on the Switch 2 with Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.

That said, here are some games we want for the Switch 2.

Biggest Games we Want on Nintendo Switch 2

New The Legend of Zelda Game / Remake

We were quite blessed with Zelda games during the Switch 1 era. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom packed a AAA, heavyweight punch in the mainline series. Echoes of Wisdom gave us a rare Zelda-only outing, and the line-up was bolstered by exquisite remakes of Link’s Awakening and Skyward Sword.

The Nintendo Switch 2 needs the next major The Legend of Zelda game. However, we also need some Zelda remakes. Fans would love Majora’s Mask or Twilight Princess to be redone from the ground up, but imagine if Ocarina of Time got a 2025 or 2026 coat of polish with the advancements in technology?

New 3D Super Mario

It’s been 84 years since the last 3D Super Mario game…or it feels like it anyway. Super Mario Odyssey managed to reinvent its own wheel once again. The hat mechanic helped Mario transform into an assortment of creatures and concoctions, but it also helped the series metamorphosize into something even grander in scope.

The 3D Mario games dwarf other Mario platformers in terms of sales, but it seems like the development of 3D Mario games now lasts a few years. While this sucks if you want a new game, it does mean it’s been eight years since Super Mario Odyssey, and a new big-world adventure must be around the corner. If it’s not, I will scower every castle until I can find a new one.

New Animal Crossing

Boy, once you go through Nintendo‘s franchises, you realize how many they have—and how successful they all seem to be! Animal Crossing is another that players flock to in droves. The insatiable desire to let Tom Nook riddle us with debt never ceases. It also didn’t deter the near-50 million of you who purchased 2020’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

It’s cutesy, and cuddly, and creates the desire for more. There are many life-sim titles out there, but few can compete with the monolithic presence of Animal Crossing. The Switch 2 needs a new Animal Crossing. Mr. Nook, a word?

New Super Smash Bros.

To be honest, I’m not sure where Nintendo goes with Super Smash Bros. next. Ultimate has sold around 35-40 million copies on the Switch, and had a ridiculous roster of not far off 100 characters by the end! The game literally had Ultimate in the title, so it does beg the question as to where we go from here.

Mario Kart World’s surreal amount of innovation tells me we’re just getting started, though. Whether it’s a carefully curated roster or an even bigger character base than Ultimate, fans will buy it. If Nintendo only adds one redeeming new feature, fans will buy it. It’s going to happen, and it could mark an incredible first year for the Switch 2 if it’s announced soon.

New Luigi’s Mansion

It’s anyone’s guess as to why Luigi’s Mansion 3 took so long to appear. Its reception, sales, and the Dark Moon Remake suggest there’s plenty of life in the franchise. The novelty of seeing Luigi continuing to be scared of everything never wears thin. The third game in the series featured plenty of scares and stairs, and I need the green plumber to have more fictional nightmares.

With a big emphasis on multiplayer and chat/party interconnectivity with the Switch 2, Luigi’s Mansion 4 could go all in on this element. Let Luigi be scared with more people in the grandest mansion (hotel, building, whatever) yet.

New Switch 2 Sports

I lost countless hours to the original Wii Sports. My quest to bowl the perfect game was flawed and foolish, but I had a great time. Whereas the Golf game mini-game may not rival PGA 2K25, EA Sports PGA Tour, or even Mario Golf, but it didn’t deserve a “fore” shout. It felt like the potential for a fun, interactive sports title was here.

But subsequent Nintendo Sports packages have fallen short. Switch Sports has quite a few games, but they all feel half-cooked. I want Switch 2 Sports to finally commit and give us several meaty, hefty, well-thought-out, and cohesive sports games rolled into one bundle. Just me?
