Frostpunk 2’s Free Content Update Introduces a New Map, Updated Heat Mechanics and More

Frostpunk 2’s update 1.3 is now live, introducing a new map, quests, heat mechanics overhaul, Frostkit 1.0 modding tool and much more.

Frostpunk 2’s New Map is Called The Pit

The developers have added The Pit map to Frostpunk 2 with update 1.3. It has been described as a “Large map with a distinctive ‘proto-crater’ pit counted as mountain terrain, built around the remnants of a failed Generator project.” Players will be able to access The Pit in the Utopia Builder mode as a starting Sandbox location. It is also available as a Frostland colonisation site to offer “more variation to the gameplay”.

New Quests and Challenges for Frostpunk 2

‘Tales from the Frostland’ is the new line of challenges added in Frostpunk 2 update 1.3. Each challenge has a unique quest and storyline. Players can combine multiple tales during a single playthrough, and completing each will reward the player with a Monument Hub, which can be used to decorate their city. Also, the tales have been created with the modding community in mind so they can be expanded in the future.

Frostpunk 2’s New Heat Mechanics

The developers have overhauled Frostpunk 2’s heating system in update 1.3, introducing localised heat management. Players will now find a redesigned Generator UI, which helps players manage temperature by district. Also, there are some unique local effects and “consequences when heat is lacking, such as sickness, injuries, or even death.” Players can use the new Heatmap View to visualise district temperature, insulation, heat sources, and proximity bonuses.

Serenity Mode Returns

Frostpunk 2 is bringing back the Serenity Mode with update 1.3, which allows players to experience a more relaxed playthrough. It features gentler weather, abundant resources, shorter whiteouts, and no Fervour system (minimal protests, no faction conflict). The feature will allow players to freely explore the Frostlands without dealing with too many problems.

Improved Playability

The developers have made some subtle changes across the board to improve playability. The prologue has smoother pacing, players will now find a midpoint start option, and quests have been updated. Also, some essential tutorials, such as District Temperature and Community Action, have been improved.

Moreover, Frostpunk 2’s city visuals will show a denser population, clearer building visibility, and better road finding. Players will also see improved district shapes, a new option for Plaza placement, and the legacy urban layout.

Frostpunk 2’s Modding Tools Leave Beta

Another significant addition to Frostpunk 2 update 1.3 is the modding tool Frostkit 1.0. The developers created this tool in close collaboration with the modding community, and Frostkit 1.0 is finally out of beta. Players can observe new features such as the search bar, mod menu visual overhaul, play-in-editor mode, improved loading times, tutorials, and more.
