Here in the writer’s room at Insider Gaming, we recently got talking about what we want to see in Grand Theft Auto 6. Being an avid fan of all things Rockstar Games, I’m an advocate for taking the best pieces of the firm’s top games and rolling them into future projects.
With that in mind, there are a few key features I’d love to see implemented in GTA 6 from Red Dead Redemption 2. They’re not too outside the box, and I’m sure they’re already in Rockstar Games’ next open-world epic, but you never know.
GTA 6 Needs These Red Dead Mechanics
Grand Theft Auto has always lacked a solid reputation system, and that’s something I’d love to see implemented in GTA 6.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has various branching paths and endings depending on your reputation and how you react to certain events as the story unfolds. You can either go down in history as a crooked, brutal villain or a lovable rogue and a man of the people.
I’d love to see this featured in GTA 6, with the actions you perform in the open world having a lasting and persistent impact on the environment.
How many times have you gone on a rampage in Grand Theft Auto only to return to the same spot the following day after a stint in jail or the hospital and have absolutely nobody a) recognise you, or b) care that you’re there?
It could be a little world-breaking as it could be argued that the core premise of GTA is to be a no-holds-barred criminal, but we’ve all tried to behave ourselves in a Grand Theft Auto title at one point.
Second, I want to see world evolution in GTA 6.
If you’re unfamiliar with Red Dead Redemption 2, it features an ever-evolving world. At the end of the game, there’s a time jump of sorts that takes you a few years into the future, and when you explore the world at that point, you’ll notice many key differences.
For instance, buildings that were under construction are now finished, key residents have ‘aged up’, and some settlements that might have been occupied stand abandoned, for whatever reason. People recognise the passing of time, and it plays a key role in some missions.
I want GTA 6 to have a living world that grows with the player and features persistent changes. Let’s not have a repeat of that skyscraper-style building site in Los Santos in GTA 5, which, after more than a decade,e is still under construction.
Let me know if you’d like to see these features in GTA 6, and if you’ve got a moment, jump onto the Insider Gaming forum to share your predictions for the game.
