Bethesda Needs To Show New Starfield DLC at Xbox Games Showcase

The next Xbox Games Showcase is mere weeks away, slated for June 8. The all-digital event promises to reveal the immediate future of the Xbox ecosystem, and one thing I’m eager to see surface is the next Starfield expansion. It has already been a long time since Shattered Space was released, and those still playing Starfield are hungry for more content.

Bethesda Game Studios once promised one major expansion a year, and we knew about Shattered Space before the game was even released. It seems strange that we’ve gone so long without any kind of an update, and the Xbox Games Showcase is the perfect platform to do it.

What’s Next for Starfield?

Shattered Space was released in September 2024, which already seems like a world away.

We knew about Shattered Space long before the game came out, but it didn’t get a release date until last year’s Xbox Games Showcase, which also took place in June. It’s the perfect time to announce the next major expansion, I’m just confused as to why Bethesda Game Studios hasn’t said anything yet.

Starfield was supposed to be this never-ending epic that would last years, seeing similar success to games like Fallout 4 and Skyrim, but that hasn’t been the case. Few people still play Starfield, according to representative figures on Steam, and nobody is consuming Starfield content anymore on streaming and sharing platforms.

Shattered Space wasn’t the silver bullet that Bethesda was hoping for, so something has got to give this year with a big reveal.

I fear if the Xbox Games Showcase comes and goes without a Starfield arrival, there will be no redemption for the game that was in development (in a way) for around two decades at Bethesda Game Studios. In my opinion, the delivery of Starfield was underwhelming, and it has suffered ever since.

Are you eager to see Starfield DLC revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase? Let me know in the comments or on the Insider Gaming forum.

  • I played it for a few months after release, took a long break from it, but picked it back up recently.

It’s great, and a working mod ecosystem on console is really impressive. Looking forward to the June announcement!
