It is safe to say that 2023 has been a successful period for game sequels. With games such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Diablo 4, and Baldur’s Gate 3 continuing previous successes. Not to mention the titles that are yet to launch with the likes of Spiderman 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 both on the agenda before the year’s end.

Not only gameplay but also the narrative structure of the game as well as character development. The ‘synergized’ mechanic first introduced in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade returns which allows players to synchronize their attacks.

4. South Park: Snow Day!
South Park goes back to its 3D roots in this installment of the game spin-off to the Comedy Central series. The game ditches the 2D formula that has served the former releases well. Instead, it has adopted an action roleplaying style of gameplay resembling Happy Wars and games of that caliber. It is yet to be seen whether ARP-style gameplay will be wholly used or rather a hybrid of the battle systems that players experienced in TFBW and TSOT.
However, it is worth keeping an eye on. Trey Parker and Matt Stone (creators of South Park) will be involved in the game’s writing process.
Expected Release Date: 2024 (Unspecified) for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch
3. The Wolf Among Us 2
After a 10-year hiatus, TWAU is back for its second installment in 2024. Fans of the game had been left in waiting with Telltale focusing on Minecraft: Story Mode and Game of Thrones. After its cancellation in 2019 due to “insurmountable challenges”, the hope for the planned sequel looked unlikely but fortunes have since turned.
The sequel will continue the story from the original release but will remain as a prequel to the comic series of the same name.
With the sequel planned to launch in 2023, a further delay to the following year in order to utilise Unreal Engine 5 should see Telltale continue to nail story-based gaming.
