5 Best Games Like Alan Wake 2, Ranked

After making a statement with Control, Alan Wake 2 is Remedy perfecting its recipe for horror. Stunning visuals, a chilling narrative, and terrifying gameplay don’t even begin to describe how good the experience is, and for those of you who have finished the main story, Alan and Saga might have left a gaping hole within your heart. This list aims to fill that space with some of the best games like Alan Wake 2, especially with lots of awesome survival horror picks.

Best Games Like Alan Wake 2, Ranked

The following entries are ranked based on first-hand experience. If you’ve got a game worth mentioning that’s similar to Alan Wake 2, be sure to name the recommendation in the comments.

5. The Evil Within

The Evil Within, one of the best games like Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2’s eerie tone and detective narrative couldn’t help but make me reminisce on the time I played as Sebastian Castellanos. While The Evil Within is more than a decade old, at the time it was one of the most terrifying horror games, and to this day that aspect of it holds up.

The Evil Within has the same style as Alan Wake 2, and it will get you just as much creeped out. It’s a spooky game that knows when to make you panic and when to reward you with exciting story bits, and that’s why it’s one of the best games like Alan Wake 2 you should play right now.

4. The Last of Us Part 2

the last of us

Horror, jump scares, zombie-like enemies, The Last of Us Part 2, and Alan Wake 2 have more similarities between them than most people would admit. Both of them are visual hallmarks. Sound design, the story, and the gunplay, Remedy, and Naughty Dog are perfect examples of studios that bring those parts alive in their games.

The Last of Us Part 2 is among the top games like Alan Wake 2, and with the remastered version coming up soon for the PS5, the experience will be all the more merrier.

3. The Medium

The Medium, one of the best games like Alan Wake 2

The Medium is another stellar detective story that you must play if you enjoyed Alan Wake 2. The game follows our protagonist Marianne whose consciousness exists on two separate planes, a feature that has an eerie resemblance to the duality Remedy shows between Alan and Saga.

Another comparison would be calling The Medium a type of Outlast game drawing inspiration from Alan Wake. It is a solid option for those looking for the best games like Alan Wake 2, especially if they love the survival horror elements as there are many of them here.

2. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

Visually, Hellblade bears a striking resemblance to Alan Wake 2. While the latter is obviously superior graphically considering its launch date, Hellblade’s graphics will seem unsettlingly familiar if you play it next.

But what truly takes the cake in Hellblade is the single long take in which the story unfolds. Add the Bright Falls vibe into the pot and Hellblade becomes what is one of the best games like Alan Wake 2.

1. Death Stranding

Death Stranding

With the unnerving BT encounters, World War time loops, and an open-world almost devoid of life, at times Death Stranding feels like the ultimate survival horror simulator despite it being aimed as a Strand-type action game. The fidelity is on par with Alan Wake 2 as well, further adding to the already mountain-sized pile of reasons why Death Stranding should be your next playthrough.

Death Stranding is about twice the length of Alan Wake 2. And ultimately it’s a slow burn compared to Remedy’s best. But if you’ve got time on your hands – as well as some patience – it’ll be well spent on Death Stranding.
