It’s been confirmed for a while that XDefiant will eventually get a Ranked Play, but when exactly will the release date be?
According to the developers, Ranked Play is expected to launch in a “future season”, which admittingly does not give us a lot of information on when it’s coming. XDefiant’s first season, which is set to add three new maps and three new weapons, is set to launch on July 2nd, 2024, with each following season launching three months later.
However, there is a glimpse of hope for those waiting to play XDefiant Ranked Play. The game already has a Ranked Trial Run available, suggesting that the mode will be released sooner rather than later.
The Ranked Trial Run currently sees players battling it out in a 4v4; however, XDefiant lead Mark Rubin has previously suggested that it could be increased to 5v5 later based on feedback.
As the name suggests, Ranked Play is a matchmaking system in which teams of similar skill are matched against each other. This is unlike the randomness in XDefiant’s public matchmaking. It’s currently unclear on what gamesmodes and maps will be available for the mode, but as the game does have some Call of Duty esports professionals on its development team, it’s likely to be somewhat similar to Call of Duty. Domination and Occupy are the most likely candidates for gamemodes, whereas maps will ultimately depend on what the studio deems best.
